DRCC is seeking community leaders whose help is needed to continue the important services that DeKalb Rape Crisis Center (DRCC) provides to survivors in metro Atlanta.
DRCC has helped survivors rebuild their lives after the trauma and pain of sexual assault for 22 years. Today, more than ever, we need to show our clients and our community that strong, capable women like you are standing with us in our mission to serve survivors and put an end to sexual assault.
The statistics of sexual assault are staggering. In the United States, a woman is raped every six minutes; one in four women will be a victim of sexual violence at some point in her lifetime; and 84% of all rapes are committed by someone known to the victim. Last year, DRCC provided counseling to 609 clients and provided referrals to over 1,500 others needing assistance.
DRCC is one of the few crisis centers in Georgia focused on trauma recovery services for all survivors. In 2011, we also provided education outreach to over 5,300 students and community groups. Our goal in 2012 is to reach more young men; to teach respect, boundaries and healthy relations; and to drastically reduce the number of sexual assaults in metro Atlanta.
You may be surprised to know that our counseling services are still available to recent survivors at no charge. We fund our operation entirely through grants, sponsorships, donations and special events. We have reached our capacity and need your help in order to assist those on our waiting list!
Please consider joining the Women Who Lead campaign. Your generous support will be widely recognized in the community and at the Center. More importantly, your support will be felt by survivors in our area. Thank you for considering our request.
