Client Services:
Crisis Counseling/Emotional Support
24 Hour Crisis Line Staffed by trained volunteers, the crisis line answers the need for short-term crisis counseling to recent survivors of rape and those whose victimization was in the past. Many calls come in from family members and friends of survivors.
Support Group for Survivors
A weekly support group is provided. Under the leadership of our therapist, this group provides a time for sharing experiences to enhance the healing process.
Free Individual Counseling
Counseling is provided at the center by professional counselors. This support is available regardless of when the assault occurred. Healing from a sexual assault is possible. Community referrals are made for longer term therapy.
Education:
Speakers Bureau
Education toward the prevention of sexual assault and toward the awareness of services for healing after sexual assault is provided through our speakers bureau. Trained volunteers and office staff speak to a variety of community groups, including middle and high schools, where speakers present 6th through 12th grade curricula on harassment, healthy relationships, dating violence and bullying. Volunteer and health fair presentations are made on a regular basis along with educational outreach to the professional community.
Library Services
The DRCC Resource Library houses a collection of books, videos, and articles with a focus on sexual assault related subjects. The Library’s categories are Sexual Assault, Child Sexual Abuse, Sexual Harassment, Relationship Violence, Violence, Men’s Issues, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues, Women’s Issues, Spanish Language, Communities of Color, and Miscellaneous. Lists of the items provided, as well as item availability, can be checked via the category links above. Library items are available to the general public for a two week check out from the DeKalb Rape Crisis Center office. Other Services:
Medical Accompaniment and Advocacy
A trained volunteer is called to the hospital when a rape survivor arrives. She/he acts as companion and advocate during the survivor's entire hospital stay.
Criminal Justice Advocacy
Volunteers and office staff who are jointly trained by DeKalb Rape Crisis Center and the Victim Witness Coordinator of the D.A's office serve as companions to victims during the court process, providing companionship and support. Information is provided about reporting options, victims' rights, types of hearings, victim impact statements, filing for victim compensation, probation, and parole, as well as legal hearings and processes.
Information and Referral
Crisis line volunteers and office staff provide information and referral for immediate care, crisis and long-term counseling and additional community resources as needed.
Financial Advocacy
Comprehensive information about financial resources available to survivors is provided by crisis line volunteers and staff. Crime victim compensation up to $10,000 per incident may be available to victims who cooperate with the police. Access to this and other resources including compensation forms and notary services are provided by the staff of DRCC.
Multicultural Outreach Program
The Multicultural Outreach Program program provides support and advocacy to Latina survivors affected by sexual assault. Currently our goal is to reach the diverse and multicultural residents of Dekalb County. Bilingual volunteers are available to do presentations and/or assist on the hotline.
Community Service Coordination
DRCC convenes a community advisory committee to work for effective delivery of services to sexual assault survivors. This committee maintains a system of care for the sexual assault survivor.
